Lucy Bartholomew - GPT100 Miler

A week before this year event, close friend and all time legend Lucy Bartholomew asked me to be apart of her crew for the upcoming 100 miler in the Grampians. Absolutely.

Fast forward a week later, the temperature gauge was predicted to tip 40 and Lucy was stood on a granite rock slab that served as the start line. We followed Lucy’s journey as she put on an ever extending lead heading through the night and into dawn. She was relentless, as was her positivity and ability to overcome the incredible conditions.

Moments after willing Lucy through the third last checkpoint, we got word that the race was to be suspended, potentially cancelled. After 141km, 7000m of climbing the race was over. It was devastating to be sat on the side of a nondescript fire road, watching athletes process that all of that effort, pain and stress was to be for nothing. There is so much more to professional athletes than their physical capacity and watching Lucy flex those mental muscles was incredible and something i’ll never forget. These are some of my favourite photos, especially during the night.
